What If I Have a Medical Emergency Related to my Certified Condition?

Though the WTC Health Program requires pre-authorization for many doctors visits and treatments, it’s not always possible to plan for a medical emergency. Because of this, the program has special policies in place so that patients who have immediate medical needs can access care without navigating a complicated phone tree.

First and foremost, WTC Health Program patients who suffer a medical emergency do NOT need to notify their Center of Clinical Excellence (CCE) or the National Provider Network (NPN) prior to seeking treatment. They should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room, as they would for any emergency. The costs of these visits will be covered by the program.

The only caveat to this policy is that WTC Health Program program will only cover emergency care that is related to a certified condition, but as long as that criteria is met, the program covers both urgent care and emergency room services.

Patients should, however, notify the program within 24 hours so that their care can be coordinated and their treatment given proper authorization.
